Delbert Devin "Ronnie" Frye 1938-2020

Delbert Junior Frye (DJ) – Born October 2, 1938 in Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away on March 19, 2020 in Winter Garden, Florida.

DJ was the son of the late Delbert and Louise Shoemaker Frye, longtime residents of Johnson City. He graduated from Science Hill High School in 1956 and ETSU in 1961 with a B.S. in Accounting and B.A. in English Literature. DJ was a published author in the 1971 National Association of Accountant’s publication, writing on the Adoption of the Combined Cost Accounting Method. He was a member of the Marine Corps Reserves from 1955 to 1959. As a young man, DJ assisted his parents and brother with the successful operations of the family-owned Hertz/Avis Car Rental at Tri-Cities Airport, Airport Limousine Service, Terminal Garage and US Mail Contractor Services. Early in his career, he worked for the Government Accounting Office in Washington D.C. as an auditor during the Cuban missile crisis. DJ was a successful businessman who retired as the CFO of Specialty Alloys in Gallaway, TN in 2008. He enjoyed golf, horse racing and telling stories to all his friends and family. He was loved by many in life. His final days were spent joking with friends and staff at Winter Garden Quality Health, who provided exceptional care.

DJ is survived by his brother, James (Mary) Frye of Round Rock, TX; children, Kim Carey (Robert) Williams of Erwin, TN, Andrew (Gregory Rose) Frye of Montverde, FL, Stephen (Heather) Frye of Oakland Twp., MI, Stacy (Renee) Frye of Zeeland, MI; and children by marriage, Joanne Aldworth (Mitch) Green of Fort Lee, VA, and son Clive (Carolyn) Aldworth of Keller, TX; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Cremation services will be provided by Baldwin-Fairchild at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Gotha, Florida. A special thanks to Gregory Rose for many years of love, support and care he provided to our father, and Jacqueline Frye for many years of love and emotional support.
